NAME: MELISSA TIBBITS
RACE: 15k

This is my 8th year running the 15K boilermaker and 2nd year running for OMT16 with a charity bib. When my son was diagnosed with a Ganglioglioma brain tumor two years ago it changed our lives to something so unimaginable. Out of all the bad during that time, there was also a lot of good. Nick’s school and his baseball team, our community, all of our family and friends, and complete strangers reached out to help us/Nick in any way possible. OMT16 was one of those which we are eternally grateful for. This year, like last year, being a part of the Boilermaker Charity Bib means helping another family who is going through what my family went through. It means doctors and nurses receiving a small token of appreciation that helps to brighten their day after a long emotional shift. It means putting a smile on a young child’s face who is questioning what is going on while they’re hooked to a chemo machine, and I just can’t be more excited to be a part of all of that. 🧡

NAME: BRETT BARNES
RACE: 15k

I am a 24 year old CNY native, who played football at St. Lawrence University. This will be my 5th Boilermaker 15K, but it will be my first time running for the Charity Bib Program. I am extremely excited to represent OMT16! Being a former athlete I love everything that OMT16 stands for. I decided to do the Charity Bib Program because I want to show people that small actions like running a 15K can have lasting impacts on other individuals’ lives.

NAME: MELISSA HAUN
RACE: 15k

Hi, I’m Melissa Haun and I am very grateful for the opportunity to run for OMT through the boilermaker charity bib program! I am currently a nursing student at Le Moyne College. I enjoy running because it allows me to push myself and gives me a way to stay in shape! I am very excited to run for OMT because of the amazing support network that they provide for pediatric oncology patients and their families. Over the past year, I have become close with the Sheridan family and have gotten to hear about some of the struggles that came with Jack’s fight against cancer. The courage and strength that the entire Sheridan family had throughout Jack’s journey has inspired me, and I hope by running for OMT I can share that hope and inspiration with others. For me, being part of the boilermaker charity bib program is an opportunity to be a part of something bigger than myself. It allows me to come alongside others who are fighting their own battles with cancer and gives me the chance to show my support and encouragement.

NAME: SCOTT KINGSLEY
RACE: 15k

I have run the Boilermaker Road Race two of the last three years (not in 2018, as I was recovering from ACL replacement), with excellent results and  I wore the charity bib for the Food Bank of CNY in 2017. I had prostate cancer surgery in March and am currently undergoing hormone and drug therapy treatments.  I am feeling good and looking forward to running the new virtual version of the Boilermaker for the OMT16 team on September 13, 2020.  If I cannot physically run the race, each of my four amazing children has agreed to step into my place.

I was blessed to participate in your 1st stair climb with my workout community in honor of the Cooney family, who are clients at my hair salon.  I’m excited to run for a great cause with On Team16 and with my cousin Lori Wieczorek. Leukemia has definitely affected many members of my family and I am excited to give back.

RACE: 5k

I am a mother of three baseball obsessed teenage boys. If dads not coaching, we’re on 2 school teams, 2 travel teams, a collegiate club team and always find time to squeeze in a New York Yankees game. I’m excited to be running for OMT16 because as a family we decided the best way to give back was through our passion for baseball.  This led us to OMT16 in December 2019 when Pat Corbin was a bartender for the cause. We instantly knew we could all participate. We look forward to participating in more events to come and supporting OMT16 and this incredible program the Sheridan family has created.

I’m excited to share that this will be my second year to have the opportunity to run for OMT16 through the Boilermaker Charity Bib program! As a field hockey coach with Fayetteville-Manlius High School, it is important to me that our community takes care of young individuals and their families that are going through difficult times. For this reason I am running again for those who are not able to and raise money that will hopefully lead to finding a cure.

I am a wife and mother to 2 teenage boys. The boilermaker has been on my list of races for several years, so when my friend asked if I wanted to run for OMT16, it was a “no brainer”. I am a breast cancer survivor, so I am no stranger to the awful effects of cancer.
